United States of AmericaBicycle Helmet Safety Institute We are a small, active, non-profit consumer-funded program acting as a clearinghouse and a technical resource for bicycle helmet information.
BTS - Bureau of Transportation Statistics The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) is an operating administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). BTS compiles, analyzes, and makes accessible information on the Nation's transportation systems; collects information on intermodal transportation and other areas as needed; and works to enhance the quality and effectiveness of government statistics.
Center for Excellence in Rural Safety The Center for Excellence in Rural Safety provides citizen-centered research, training, and outreach to enhance rural safety and to meet the online and seminar training needs of rural transportation practitioners and policymakers. The Center conducts several focused research activities to explore policy, behavior, and technology approaches, such as projects addressing safety-conscious planning, ITS and rural emergency response, integrated policy approaches, and related human factors, societal trends, and stakeholder needs analysis.
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Electronic Reading Room Electronic Reading Room of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) which is a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
FHWA - Federal Highway Administration The vision of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is to create the best transportation system in the world for the American people through proactive leadership, innovation, and excellence in service. We also provide expertise, resources, and information to continually improve the quality of our nation's highway system and its intermodal connections.
Highway Safety Research Center Library Research Publications of the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center. The HSRC Library provides access to traffic safety research information from the United States, and around the world. Library collections reflect the focus of the Center's research, and concentrate on human factors, civil engineering, and design of facilities for pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute are independent, nonprofit, research and communications organizations funded by auto insurers and dedicated to reducing highway crash deaths, injuries, and property losses.
ITE - Institute of Transportation Engineers The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), an international individual member educational and scientific association, is one of the largest and fastest-growing multimodal professional transportation organizations in the world. ITE members are traffic engineers, transportation planners and other professionals who are responsible for meeting society's needs for safe and efficient surface transportation through planning, designing, implementing, operating and maintaining surface transportation systems worldwide.
National Transportation Library (NTL) Charged with improvingthe availability of transportation-related information needed by Federal, state, and local decision-makers, the National Transportation Library's (NTL) missionis to increase timely access to the information that supports transportation policy, research, operations, and technology transfer activities.
NCSA - National Center for Statistics and Analysis NCSA is responsible for providing a wide range of analytical and statistical support to NHTSA and the highway safety community at large, in the general areas of: Human, vehicle, environmental, and roadway characteristics, as they relate to crash frequency and injuries. Identifying injury mechanisms and associated crash dynamics in motor vehicle crashes. Evaluating the effectiveness of crashworthiness, crashavoidence, and traffic safety efforts etc. To address the many analytic requirements, data are obtained from a variety of sources. The major data sources are NCSA's own Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS).
NHTSA - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA is responsible for reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes. This is accomplished by setting and enforcing safety performance standards for motor vehicle equipment, and through grants to state and local governments to enable them to conduct effective local highway safety programs.
NHTSA Publications Catalog Our Safety Materials Catalog contains publications released by our Office of Traffic Safety Programs. Traffic Safety encompasses Communication and Outreach, Injury Control and Traffic Safety Research. The NHTSA Publications Catalog, a supplement to the Safety Materials Catalog, offers publications generated and released by all other offices within NHTSA. The Publications Catalog offers access to reports, research studies, testing procedures and results - where available, statistics, procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment, and other consumer-related materials offered by NHTSA.
TRIS TRIS is a bibliographic database funded by sponsors of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), primarily the state departments of transportation and selected federal transportation agencies. TRIS Online is hosted by the National Transportation Library under a cooperative agreement between the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and TRB.
Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center Library TFHRC is a federally owned and operated research facility in McLean, Virginia. TFHRC is the home of the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA's) Office of Research, Development, and Technology. TFHRC provides FHWA and the world highway community with the most advanced research and development related to new highway technologies. The research focuses on providing solutions to complex technical problems through the development of more economical, environmentally sensitive designs; more efficient, quality controlled constructions practices; and more durable materials. The end result is a safer, more reliable highway transportation system.
University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute UMTRI’s library houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of literature on traffic safety. It reflects the diversity of disciplines that the field comprises: accidents and injuries, biomechanics, human factors, vehicle dynamics, driver behavior, and public policy. The collection is also strong in the areas of intelligent transportation systems, the trucking industry, shipbuilding, and the automotive industry. The library does not offer an interlibrary loan service, but will provide photocopies for a fee.
Volpe National Transportation Systems Center The Volpe Center is an innovative, federal, fee-for-service organization within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
