The Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre (VALT/FMIC) - FINLAND
The FMIC is a statutory organisation (Motor Liability Insurance Act). One of the legal tasks is to participate in road safety work. Its road safety department runs this activity. The work is steered by Traffic Safety Committee of Insurance Companies (VALT). A separate legislation (Act on the Investigation of Road and Cross-country Traffic Accident) covers the investigation activity. Road accident investigation is steered and supervised by the Road Accident Investigation Delegation set up by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and maintained by the Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre/VALT. 21 Road Accident Investigation Teams covering the whole country perform investigations. The Road Accident Investigation Delegation and the Road Accident Investigation Teams operate in connection with the Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre.
