Car occupants
The Basic Fact Sheet Car Occupants provides accident data for 14 EU countries (EU-15 without Germany) over the period 1997-2006. The fact sheet includes several basic characteristics of fatal road accidents involving car occupants. For example: age and gender of fatalities, type of road, day of the week and time of the day or the month of year.
In this fact sheet car drivers as well as car passengers are discussed. That is why the word 'car occupants' is used. In 2006, 12.606 car occupants were killed in road traffic accidents in the EU-14. This represents half of all fatalities in 2006. Of these 12.606 killed car occupants, 8.698 were drivers.
Fact: A reduction of 31% in the number of car driver fatalities is observed during the last decade in the EU-14 countries.
Fact: A reduction of 38% in the number of car passenger fatalities is observed during the last decade in the EU-14 countries.
